In our opening concert we will explore works by western composers who were strongly influenced by India. We shall hear a two piano version of Nikolai Medtner’s Third Piano Concerto, which was dedicated to the Maharajah of Mysore. Yoram Paporisz wrote a set of eighteen short piano pieces based on Indian ragas which will be presented in varied arrangements with piano and strings. Maurice Delage composed Ragamalika, a piece for soprano and piano which employs Indian scales in a characteristically French atmosphere. In addition to these, there will be several other shorter works which bear a strong connection to India.
